aren't those air America regs? a couple friends have these but I don't notice a difference? maybe to save some weight, they are aluminum instead of stainless

It saves a lot of weight, and as you can see, you can anodize it...

It brings you within an oz of X-valve weight. It's still a classic, but for a lot of people, classic reg is good enough.

    Definitely not on the A-Team.

When Tak designed the regs for the HPA tank regs, he based it off what he knew, AIR regs. So the Air America stuff was exactly the same in design. I do not know if Vigilante regs can be used, but the Violator, Black Ice and to a point the Unireg all can be "back-halfed" onto a AIR valve.

Can I stick the leftover back half of my A.I.R. valve onto my Black Ice reg? That would be a very weird thing to do to my Autococker lol

Yes, the threading goes both ways. You would basically turn you black ice reg into a Unireg.

    I only see a cocker.

Looks like the top part of a PPS gun.

I was going to say "modified KP". Could be Palmer's or other.

I usually see this set up on pumps. I'm assuming it can keep up with shooting semi as well.

It shot nicely when I first put her together years ago. Notice the volumizing chamber in the middle of the front block? I don't shoot semis that fast anymore anyway...even my hopped up Mini I still shoot like it was a Phantom lol. She should shoot just fine in classic mode. I'll let you'all know when I get around to doing it...that may be a while...

Going back to the original question...

The Air America Reg saves a ton of weight. See:

Just note that these regs don't work well with CO2 at all. Had lots of issue with the mag above for a client because he wanted to use CO2.

@Sk8rmog.... Is that a function of trying to play semi with it or just CO2 in general?

Yes, but the AA back has particular issues with CO2. The reg seal doesn't seal right and causes major velocity spikes. I was using an Anti-Siphon tank with the huge expansion chamber and I just couldn't get the velocity to stay +/- 5fps. It would have a hot hot and then drop to 200fps for the next few shots. Basically it wasn't recharging correctly with CO2 but ended up working fine with compressed air. I only use them on pumps and slow shooting semis. Never tried it on my hypermags.
