Stripped some threads on fill nipple of my reg

Ugh... So I was removing the reg from my 45/45 tank and using the full nipple as a brace to do it. I bought one of those reg removal tools. One side of the tapped hole is now smooth.

So, helicoil or just spring for a new reg?

what kind of reg was it?

I would get a new reg. i wouldnt want 3,000+psi being held in by a faulty fitting.

DXS... I figure I would use it on that before my Ninja regs.

I only needed to remove one so I could take it on a flight.

i use the old benchmark cradles to get my regs off. The ones made for the raptor regs with the large flat sides.

Replace the reg. You are going to be putting in 4500psi into a weakened point. Not only would you have to seal the nipple to the helicoil, you would also have to seal the helicoil to the reg. It is not worth the time, effort and risk of it blowing out, possibly injuring you or anyone near that tank. Replace it and be done.

    Yup... That's what I figured.

Thanks for your text, BTW. I'll check into that.

Run a 1/8x27 NPT Tap in there. Its pipe thread which is tapered so you should be fine with sealant on the threads of your new fill nipple.
