Ball Detents - In servicing guns I see a lot of detents. Here is some basic information and tips on Automag ULE detents.
Automag detents are a simple nylon ball with a spring. Held together by a small aluminum housing with threads. The detent is designed to be lightly tightened into the threaded hole with just enough pressure on the oring to hold it in place. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN DETENTS. Overtightening will push the oring out of it's groove and cause the detent to loosen and it will also bury the detent housing too far into the body and possibly interact with your bolt. In the pictures, first one is a properly installed detent. You still see a good portion of the oring. That is OK. Second picture shows a detent damaged from being too far screwed in and being hit by the bolt. It also show the wrong size oring being used which can also cause it to be screwed too far in. Next to that is then the larger proper oring shown with a normal detent. The close-up shot is what it looks like with the detent too far in. you can see how the housing extends beyond the body sidewall. DON'T DO THAT! The lesson is you should always use the proper part and orings and do not overtighten detents. Have a great day! Shoot mags!
