Mine is ready for anno, but for some reason choosing what I want is hard. So I'm waiting for my epiphany.

How long did it take to polish ?

    Machining marks were really bad.

Evo bodies were 3D machined using a ball endmill and a million passes. that type of surface is normal for 3D machine parts.
the smoother you want it the more money it costs in machine time.
vibratory tumbling will take that right off with little effort. I leave finish work up to your anodizer of choice.

Actually only takes a few minutes, aluminium polishes up real easy, just need to use a decent grade of polish on the mop wheel for the rough then normal polish for the mirror finish.
You can use a bit of 240 grit emory cloth before hand to get in the nooks and crannys to speed up on polishing time.

Machine lines are standard in 3d machining and XMT has done a good job, a lot better compared to some of the stuff I've had to deal with over the years, I've delt with a lot worse.

A local polisher should charge you about $20 to polish up a body in my opinion

Outside of an anodizer, you probably couldn't get someone to touch it around here.

That's about what I expected. Most places do bulk work on polishing. Hard to get a decent price on one piece.DIY, take your time.

His comment was that straight polishing will remove a lot of the definition and lines from the body, he's saying hours of light hand sanding before polishing.

If I wanted it satin or dust it would have been easier but I decided to go gloss this time.

The more detailed the body, the worse it gets. Polishing keeps me out of more jeweling and ano. It tends to be underrated as prep work and consumes a lot of time. There's a local dragon Timmy that met a hard machine polish; on one side you can see the barrel threads in the body, from the outside.

The light is reflecting off the blue blackdrop, making the gloss black pick up the colour. Always use a neutral colour as a backdrop so it doesn't "corrupt" the pictures.
