    Angry Paypal Is Crooked

well i had heard the warnings in the past and i guess i should have heeded them. i learned the hard way. let my mistake be your education.

after unknowingly receiving a stolen credit card payment thru paypal, my account was frozen and my balance wiped to 0. to make it worse the dollar amount in question was for 160 and paypal took that along with 2 more payments in excess of 100. as a result my account has been frozen.

no investigation on their part, no warning. along with that it has made me nervous enough to clear my bank account that i have linked to this paypal account.

these guys are crooks and not an online banking service, they are a privately owned company that will **** you. wanna know more, go to www.nopaypal.com

BE WARNED, if you own a paypal accnt you might want to rethink it. needless to say i no longer accept paypal. this has been a costly mistake on my part, dont let it happen to you.

    Quoted from http://www.nopaypal.com/faqs.shtml
How do I close my PayPal account?
You'll have to log into your account first. Then click on "help," then "contact us" and then on the left column you'll see "account profile" and the right you'll see "close account."
Added: The way I just did it was Login, Then click "My Account", Then click "Profile", Then under the "Account Information" section click "Close Account".

I've known Paypal was shady for a while, even back when they were x.com
The reporst have been getting more guesome and more fequent so I have closed my account and encourage others to follow suit.

Oh, and I know this is in the wrong forum, it's more of a friendly topic, or maybe even feedback.

Ouch... mine will be closed once I deposit the money I just received (if that was stolen, i'm gonna be ripped). Thanks for the heads up jimmy. This might be inappropriate, but if the person who gave u the stolen CC was an AO member, or other member at pb trading forums, who was it? Just so that nobody gets burned by the same guy again.

Thanks for the heads up jimmy! P.S. thanks again for that barrel

    .

no it wasnt an AO member, fortunately.

i just noticed that although i can still log into my accnt. i can no longer access the transactions. this means i cant even access the addresses of the individuals i owe items to. no worries raidenproject, got your funds today and tank ships today. (as far as i know all my AO peeps are ok and items have shipped)

    ridiculous.

On a side note, from what I read on paypalsucks.com (the same site as nopaypal.com they were trying to inform people about C2it and were told to stop. One of the reasons is assumed that they don't want to be involved with any bad press, but they dug a little dirt and one of PayPal's underwriters is Solomon Smith Barney, a Division of the Citibank group.

So, as they say, "The plot thickens..."

I think that the best method right now until all of this boils down a little bit might be good old fashioned Checks and Money Orders, or wire transfers like Western Union.

Also, RougeFactor, I personally consider it a common courtesy to inform people that if they sign up using the links you provided that they will be using you as a referal and I also give them the option of a link without a referal baked in.

    That is understandable.

I don't have a huge problem with it, but if anyone wants a non referal link, it's simply www.c2it.com

The referals are pretty much useless anyway, you end up getting 5 dollars if a person signs up using your name and then puts a bunch of money into their account.

C2it seems a little better than paypal, and is FDIC insured, I'm just a little weary as they seem to have the same business model.

    Unhappy

The problem with c2it is that I can't use it because I am on a Mac. At least that is what they told me from their CS line when I called to get assistance. Now I can't deal with anyone because everyone cancels Paypal and I can't get to c2it.
Oh well, maybe next time around.

1shot, that's what money orders are for. They aren't hard to get and you know you won't be getting money from a stolen credit card.

Transfer it to a bank account, then wait a few days and call your bank to make sure the correct amount is there. Once you have it confirmed, cancel your account.

(If that's what you plan to do)

    Just some c2it fun:

One of these links goes to the signup page and if you sign up I get a $5 refferal bonus. The other doesn't. Can you tell the difference just by looking at them?

    <a href="http://qksrv.net/click-891425-3370184?SID=mjb@fatpipe.org" target="_blank" onmouseover="window.status='http://www.c2it.com/';return true;" onmouseout="window.status=' ';return true;"><img src="https://www.c2it.com/C2IT/images/c2it_bug.gif" width="88" height="31" alt="Link To C2IT" border="0"></a>
    <a href="http://www.c2it.com"><img src="https://www.c2it.com/C2IT/images/c2it_bug.gif" width="88" height="31" alt="Link To C2IT" border="0"></a>

If you click you will see the difference in where they link.

BTW I really like c2it. Anything within the US is totally free. It's a real bank. They have a toll free support/customer service number (that's damn easy to find). I would also suggest everyone dump paypal.

The C2it is nice but I have never gotten it to actaully work. Doesn't seem to want to process for me and then after a number of attempts it will not allow you to try anymore. I'll try again but I was a bit frustrated with it the first time I tried to use it. Yes everything in my account was double checked for accuracy and it just would not work.

Pay Pal? Never leave the money in there for an instant. transfer it immediately.

I may not know the whole picture - but as far as stolen credit cards - thats status quo period. You assume that risk when dealing with credit cards. What pay pal does is allow you to accept CC payments with out your own merchant account. Very useful. However, if that charge is from a stolen card, VISA will yank the money from pay pal - and pay pal from you. Which is the same thing if you did have a merchant account. If you had your own merchant account and you sold $1000 to a stolen card YOU would get $1000 yanked from your account from VISA. VISA protects its customers above the merchants. My friend who owned a computer business lost $10,000 due to stolen cards.

So - while pay pal may suck in other ways - the fact they yanked your money is the same everywhere when you deal with stolen cards.

Agreed webby, howeever freezing entire accounts for an undetermined amount of time while other money is still in the account is unacceptable.

rouge good point - but the if that is such a concern then they should get a merchant account....

Paypal may not be perfect - but its definately helping more people than its hurting.

As for freezing the account - how do they know your not part of the scam to launder stolen money via the CC? I dunno - probably a reason for this.

any way - moving to feedback.

Webbie, spend 10 min reading stories on www.paypalwarning.com or www.paypalsucks.com Paypal may be good if nothing goes wrong, but yer basicly screwed if something does go wrong. Their phone number is well hidden (tho paypal warning has a nice list). They are terrible about respondinf in a timly manner to _anything_. paypal warning has a nice list of alternatives. That's where I found c2it

I've also lost a considerable amount on paypal. Most recently over 500 dollars. Now my account is not only zeroed, It's freaking negative. Click on the paypal logo on my website and you'll see thta they don't work. instead, they go to paypalwarnings.com. or something like that. Paypal sucks. The best way is either thru a merchant account as webby said or thru C2it.com

I've been saying this for quite a while.

    .

well, i think the obvious has been stated.

webmaster - i understand your rational but overall i think they are still much to blame. perhaps i can understand removing the funds that were 'fraudulent' but freezing the entire accnt along with funds that were received after the fact is completely wrong. i cant even access transactions that happened in the past. that is ridiculous. not only that, im sorry but their one-sided swift justice 'well its probably illegal money' approach is wrong. without even investigating.

like donggie said, not only is my account 0, its negative meaning they took the next two incoming payments. it happened overnight and i had no control. sorry but i dont think yanking the amount in question along with any other funds coming in is right.

i have also heard instances where individuals made a claim from an ebay transaction saying that the item they recvd was not what they were sold. as a result, paypal yanked the funds from the sellers accnt and immediately gave it to the buyer. this with no defense or questions from the seller. in other words, hes probably guilty lets give the buyer his money back. meanwhile the buyer is out his money, a product and has a handful of headaches.

imagine this, i buy an angel of ebay, i get the angel. next day i make a fake complaint to paypal saying that i recvd a product that was not as described or better yet just say i never got it.
meanwhile, paypal then takes money out from the sellers account and gives it to the buyer. as a result the buyer (thief) has an angel as well as his money back. how in the hell can you avoid that?

im sorry but they still suck and their practice is unethical any way you look at it. of course i took a risk and got bit. end of story. my point is i recommend highly avoiding them. the fact that people keep saying 'never keep over 100 in the accnt' or 'deposit it immediately in your account' leads me to believe that people are unsure and that there is a risk indeed.
