Pneumag / Pneumatic Mag Overview Diagram

Update April 12 2007: As of now this thread will track the process of modding two intelliframe's into a (1) Pneumatically Operated (or Pneumag) frame and an (2) Electronically Activated Pneumatic Mag (ElectroPneumatic, or EP Mag for short). Scroll down to find the most recent posts!

WARNING: I am not a gun tech, I have not played paintball long, and I only recently got a mag. I'm only here to help!

I'd like a final detailed version to help folks understand what a pneumag actually is. Hopefully it can be used in a build guide! (might even get to build an animated version for it! ya!).

    Regular Rod-to-Sear setup
This, for example is how (all?) normal, or stock mags are designed

    Pneumatically Actuated Sear
A single example of how the sear can be activated pneumatically.

So generally speaking, (help me out here guys)

the advantages of a "pneumatic trigger" mag are:
    • Shorter Trigger Pull & Less trigger slop = easier to pull the trigger faster
    • Easier to avoid short stroking (The actuator does it at a speed faster than you could ever possibly do it with your silly human fingers).

    The disadvantages are:
    • Pneumatic valves run on low pressure - which means you need a low pressure regulator mounted somewhere on the air system.
    • Milling, grinding, modifications to your stock parts are almost definately required to incorporate the parts required, and
    • it would be difficult for most folks to upgrade parts that were modified while making the mod (rails, front vert grips etc...).

(There ya have it! My first real thread v1.0!)

    That's the idea! Good diagrams.
    a few tips...

1)QEV is optional and often proves difficult to get in there. Fast rates of fire still obtainable without it.
2)Try to get the 3 way as high as possible so you get the lightest pull
3)A ULT gives a slightly lighter pull by requiring less pressure to actuate...but is not needed
4)Below is an alternative way to attach a QEV to the MPA-3 piston.
5)Visit www.airsoldier.com for most or all the parts needed.
6)Most LPRs work great for this. Obviously LPRs rated for the Mag's 800psi input will work best. Two LPRs that have this rating are the Palmers and Shocktech LPRs
7)For faster firing, don't forget the sear travel stop. Less wear and tear on the on/off and MPA-3 as well as more air efficient.

      nice diagram.

I wonder what's the shortest distance it takes to actuate the different types of 3ways.

I think I'm going to try this with a benchmark frame when I have the time. Unfortantly I really don't have a summer anymore.

              Dumb question

Do you split the input line to go through the LPR and the Valve?

The stock CF frame is easier to do than a benchmark.

yes. Usualy you use a t-fitting, or a two outleted front asa. Most people make dual outlets were one is in front, so you can screw the LPR into that and it sticks out under the barrel, just like most EP guns

You can also use an asa with 2 outlets.

I'm putting together a database for the PnueMag HowTo... See thread in The Workshop forum... PnueMag HowTo Link

                      The PnueMag Database>>> PnueMag Database

If anyone has anything to add... images, documents or procedures... please PM me. I'll update the info when I can. I can host the info for a good amount of time so there's no worries about loosing the link after a couple of months.

Woodsball Willy... With your permission, I would like to add your diagrams to the database. Please PM me if this is OK. Thank you.

This looks like an awesome upgrade. I would really like to try it with my mag but I have some questions. My mag has an intellifeed Y-grip will this work with the switch in my frame or do I need to change the frame? Where can I find a 90* frame for my Automag I think I saw a few pictures with 90's and would like to use that. I got used to them using Angels. Thanks for the info everyone and thanks for the link to the how to guide.

Time to Bring this thread back to life!

Alright guys! It's been a while since this thread was started, but it's back for round 2!

IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: since the design of the following illustrations and concepts are patented, this information is supplied for EDUCATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY. Under no circumstances should anyone ever, in any way use this information to commit any act which may conflict with laws and regulations for existing patents. This is especially important in light of the purpose of making money or distributing said concepts or designs without obtaining approval from the rightful patent holders that these concepts represent.
WARNING: this post is not complete, so don't get your hopes up too soon! To prevent you from being mislead on the steps in building a Pneumatic Intelliframe, I advise that you DO NOT proceed to follow any steps, or buy any parts mentioned in this post until the post is marked complete.

I just realized Pneumagger's skills shown in his How-To make a Pneumag vid have PWNed(tm) me. This post will now simply overview the steps I take in making my Pneumatic and ElectroPneumatic Mags.
This post will be divided into two parts, the Pneumatic and the Electropnumatic mod info.

The original goals of these mods were to:
                              • To be as close as possible to being a drop-in kit for an intelliframe
                              • To be used no matter what valve / rail / grip you are using.

Alas, I will try to keep these goals in mind, but at the end of the day, I am doing this work for myself, so I will do what feels right for my style of playing! I'll still be posting pics and steps for all the progress for all of you.

                              Pneumatic Intelliframe Mod

                              STEP 1: Get the Parts:

                              Instructions:
There is an extremely good vid by Pneumagger that outlines step by step, the process of modding a gripframe. Go find it right now - it is essential to your success!

More to come as I the build progresses.

IMPORTANT NOTE: HUGE PROPTS TO PNEUMAGGER and the other supporters of pneumag how-to's for all the awesome work. We would be lost without you guys!
