New disease! Be careful with this one!

Very important information has just been made public that I think is
something you should all be aware of:
    Gonorrhea Lectim

The Center for Disease Control has issued a warning about a new
virulent strain of this old disease.

The disease is called Gonorrhea Lectim. It's pronounced "Gonna re-elect
    'im."

The disease is contracted through dangerous and high risk behavior
involving putting your cranium up your rectum.
Many victims contracted it in 2008 ..... but now most people after
having been infected for the past 1-2 years are starting to realize how
destructive this sickness is. It's sad because it is so easily cured
with a new procedure just coming on the market called Vo-tem-out!
You take the first dose/step in 2010 and the second dosage in 2012 and
simply don't engage in such behavior again, otherwise it could become
permanent and eventually wipe out all life as we know it.
Several states are already on top of this like Virginia and New Jersey,
and apparently now Massachusetts with many more seeing the writing on
    the wall.
Please pass this important message on to all those bright folk you
    really care about.

So, this didn't come from any email, but just for a different point of view:

Yay!!! Now we can sell our children into even more debt than our parents have sold us!! Woot!! AND!! To boot, we can parent them forever through the government now! Yay for Nanny States!!

                /end rant.

                Hai!

While it is tempting to hold such a dismissive attitude there are several trusisms that apply:

                    - Politicians are the system we have, so dismssing them entirely is counterproductive ... you remove yourself entirely from the process of governing.

                    - Politicians are not inherently untrustworthy (though some individuals may be), they just balance many, many competing interests in their decisionmaking.

                    - By and large, you can judge a politician's take on a wide range of issues by doing due diligence on their public statements and affiliations, and reconciling them with past actions.

                    - The truly dangerous politicians are the ones whose words and actions don't relate consistently, who don't represent a consistent set of values. There is no way to judge whether a person like that is worth voting for. That in itself is a determination that can usually be made with due diligence.

Once you realize all this, politics becomes a lot less scary and a lot more understandable. And that is empowering. Don't fear the beast ... study it.

collection of my simple thoughts regarding this topic

What does it cost to run a presidential campaign? How much does that position pay?
Then why would anybody want it?

Didn't like Mcain, hated Palin (porn name should be M.Palin), Hated Obahma... Was going to vote libretarian but realized the election day morning I really didn't know much about the candidate and didn't think it was right to impose my ignorance on others(wow... imagine if everyone felt that way) so I went with a write in of someone who has obviously been dead for a long time.

Laws are rules for how you are to conduct yourself so one could say laws take away freedom and choice. When polititions get together and agree they make more laws and take away more freedom. Elect politicians that bitterly disagree with each other and refuse to comprimise and keep your freedom.

I always wanted to try and get Mike Reagan's sound engineers to play COC's "Vote with a Bullet" as bumper music (during W's presidency). With the current president people would miss the irony and just think it racist and that makes me sad...

I believe what people mean when they say "all politicians always lie" is not that anybody involved in politics is constantly lying, it's the career politicians. Both sides of the aisle. And I tend to agree. We seem to have had much better luck with people whose entire lives didn't revolve around politics. Not only because having worked in some sort of for-profit (or for-results) venture is useful and educational, but because they are not beholden to 10/20/40 years of favors that have been done to them.

But unfortunately, I think it takes a rare person to go from being a creator of something (be it filled in potholes, buildings, legal briefs, healthy patients, hamburgers, etc) to a politician.

I agree with above said statement.

Kobeastly,i completely agree, only i hated mcain too, he and obama seemed too similar to me. In my opinion it was a horrible election either way, and palin was horrible too. I really wasn't sure how to vote, even when i had finally gone to vote, to me if either won it was bad for the country, and it didn't seem like one was less bad than the other.
