Smart Parts declared bankrupcy (a small win). Markers are faster, tourneys are slower (odd, huh). At least the tournies I have been to recently, everyone is using an ego or etek. Mags are still cool (just bought my first emag, and soon getting another). Milsim is more popular than ever. There is an actual sniper round (firststrike). TK invented a small air compressor (he calls it the shoebox, but I get that confused with shocker sports).

I think that sums it up.

Sort of a 4 year summary...

Electros = Smaller, lighter, mostly going single-tube.

ROF = LOWERED! Ramping is disappearing, most tourney series under 12bps.

Trends = Taped fingers, "oldschool" neon masks, gun stands, neon markers ("bLink", watermelon, "poison", very 80s), small pod packs, open-class pump play, lazering.

Dead Trends = Carbonfiber everything ('cept tanks), wrapping markers in grip tape, fade anos, dropforwards, big tanks.

Dominant MFGs = Planet Eclipse, DYE (Tippmann, BT, Kingman in low price range)

Trendy New MFGs = Tiberius, Azodin, Vanguard

Other Big MFGs/Brands = MacDev, Empire/Invert, Dangerous Power,

Companies that are GONE = Smart Parts, Powerlyte, System X, ICD, Action Markers, Brass Eagle (soon to be)

Companies that seem to be losing popularity = Bob Long, WDP (now APS), Alien, AGD (unfortunately)

      Cool Stuff:

FirstStrike "finned and rifled" sniper paint, Shoebox at home 4500psi compressor, mag-in-grip pistols (Tiberius, Tippmann), "high end" MilSim electros (BT, Bob Long, Tippmann).

Markers aren't faster. Fastest i've seen is an ego that was supposedly shooting 40 bps, and the RT valve can cycle 43 times per second, and that's been around since 96. I really don't see markers getting faster anyway since most walk at 12-15 bps. The milsim scene is pretty huge now though, and a lot of the major manufacturers have gotten in on the action, and scenario paintball has risen up. I think that's the major change in the past 2 years. As frizzle said the tourney caps have been lowered to 10.5 bps, i forget if that's psp rules or what though.

Paint has gotten smaller (for the most part), and I think G.I. Milsim (SP markers and not milsim at all) are still trying .50 cal. I don't know if they have given up on that or not.

Nope, they are still pushing full swing for 50 cal.

Some more companies working 50 cal are planet eclipse, they have a 50 cal conversion kit for their newer egos. Spyder/ kingman actually seems to be leading in the 50 cal industry at the moment with all sorts of equipment and paint.

That's because if .50 cal seems good their kingman training line will too. They are decent guns and i can see some uses for them, but i could never see playing a serious game with them. That said i was impressed.

are they really gone or did they just file for bankrupcy?

I live near their facility here in Pa and they are 100% closed. The AA field stayed open for a while but it is now closed. I went by there the other day and it is locked up tight. Outdoor fields have also been disassembled.
                          Thanks,
                          Jeremy

Although many people on here dislike SP (including me), its sad to see a field that hosted so many players and events just vanish within a few weeks. Hopefully someone buys the place and keeps the field alive, it was a major playing field for many people.
