My 2 cents on the New A5
All I can say is that it looks like the guys at Tippmann might be trying to burn money on this. in my opinion, I think that they are taking the rec ball road to the extreme with this marker. they had much success with the M98, and the 98C, but I think there going a bit overboard here. sure it has all these niffty looking upgrades and such. but there all still in the range of what they've done before.
Look at there present marker history.... most of there original markers were "joined" together to make the Pro/Carb, in my mind the Pro/Carb was a wonderful design. its almost like Microsoft Windows in a way, they just keep upgrading it and adding on, the Pro/Carb type guns are like the win95-ME OS's , the M98, and 98C is like the NT-2000 based OS's, and this new one is like XP: sure lotsa ppl (previous tippmann owners mostly) will hate it off the bat like win98 ppl hated XP. But I think like XP is doing, this new "A5" will adapt too. we all know that the company has money to burn, but we could be going about this all wrong.
When I say that I mean there could be another motive for this. and I have come to 2 conclusions.
1.this may sound nuts, but this marker may be some sort of "distraction"
project to hide this "tourney level Electro" that they are supposedly making ( I heard it was gonna be named the Model 2000, but there again lies another rumor). Something like that could shock the paintball world, and get everyone's attention.
2.Tippmann sold out. they went mad with power after the rec-ball success of their markers. And now there going to nail the coffin almost shut with this one. one thing is for sure, alot of rec ballers will want this for its looks.
Alot of the tourney players that I know got their start with a tippmann, but is this all there good for? entry-level? Tippmann has the potential to make a marker that could (don't flame me for saying this but its true...) rival markers like the Automag, or even the Angel. I'm sure thousands of vets who's first marker was a tippmann would agree that if they made a High Quality tourney level marker that all if not most would try it out.
I do hope the guys at tippmann will see this ( well I will post it on as many forums that I have membership) but I would also like them to hear form the many people that have seen what just might be there next marker, entering the pack with a blaze of glory, or in a blaze of fire as disgruntled tippmann fans burns down all there factories and the tippmann HQ.
Me? I kinda like it. kinda, its like that one guy who makes custom markers built on spyders that look like MP5's and M16's has either come to work for tippmann or they kidnapped him. At any rate, to me it will always look like someone tapped a Pro/Carb, 98Custom, and an Airsoft MP5 together, and dropped it off the top of the Sears Tower.
Who knows, maybe it will "rock the casaba" but until I try one, I'm still neutral, as should you all be when something new is released. we all joked when the lightbulb was invented, but look at the fools who still use candles.... Get my drift?
this is just my opinion, it doesn't have to be anyone else's
BTW, Tom if you can read this, i really like the work your company is handling R&D, keep pumping out the sweet paintball stuff.
