My 2 cents on the New A5

My 2 cents on the New A5

All I can say is that it looks like the guys at Tippmann might be trying to burn money on this. in my opinion, I think that they are taking the rec ball road to the extreme with this marker. they had much success with the M98, and the 98C, but I think there going a bit overboard here. sure it has all these niffty looking upgrades and such. but there all still in the range of what they've done before.

Look at there present marker history.... most of there original markers were "joined" together to make the Pro/Carb, in my mind the Pro/Carb was a wonderful design. its almost like Microsoft Windows in a way, they just keep upgrading it and adding on, the Pro/Carb type guns are like the win95-ME OS's , the M98, and 98C is like the NT-2000 based OS's, and this new one is like XP: sure lotsa ppl (previous tippmann owners mostly) will hate it off the bat like win98 ppl hated XP. But I think like XP is doing, this new "A5" will adapt too. we all know that the company has money to burn, but we could be going about this all wrong.

When I say that I mean there could be another motive for this. and I have come to 2 conclusions.

1.this may sound nuts, but this marker may be some sort of "distraction"
project to hide this "tourney level Electro" that they are supposedly making ( I heard it was gonna be named the Model 2000, but there again lies another rumor). Something like that could shock the paintball world, and get everyone's attention.

2.Tippmann sold out. they went mad with power after the rec-ball success of their markers. And now there going to nail the coffin almost shut with this one. one thing is for sure, alot of rec ballers will want this for its looks.

Alot of the tourney players that I know got their start with a tippmann, but is this all there good for? entry-level? Tippmann has the potential to make a marker that could (don't flame me for saying this but its true...) rival markers like the Automag, or even the Angel. I'm sure thousands of vets who's first marker was a tippmann would agree that if they made a High Quality tourney level marker that all if not most would try it out.

I do hope the guys at tippmann will see this ( well I will post it on as many forums that I have membership) but I would also like them to hear form the many people that have seen what just might be there next marker, entering the pack with a blaze of glory, or in a blaze of fire as disgruntled tippmann fans burns down all there factories and the tippmann HQ.

Me? I kinda like it. kinda, its like that one guy who makes custom markers built on spyders that look like MP5's and M16's has either come to work for tippmann or they kidnapped him. At any rate, to me it will always look like someone tapped a Pro/Carb, 98Custom, and an Airsoft MP5 together, and dropped it off the top of the Sears Tower.

Who knows, maybe it will "rock the casaba" but until I try one, I'm still neutral, as should you all be when something new is released. we all joked when the lightbulb was invented, but look at the fools who still use candles.... Get my drift?

this is just my opinion, it doesn't have to be anyone else's

BTW, Tom if you can read this, i really like the work your company is handling R&D, keep pumping out the sweet paintball stuff.

    Whats an A5?

From reading your post, it sounds like the A5 is a new gun from Tippmann, but I looked on their page and there's no mention of it.

Do you have any more information, pictures, links, etc?

    Cheers

    Jan.

Don't you DARE take that thing out beyong the paintball field!!!!!! That looks AMAZINGLY like an H&K MP5-K. What the heck is Tippman thinking!!!!!???? Someone has been smokeing something over there, I cant believe that they would release that as a mass produced marker. That has to be someone's Rub Goldberg. That cant be a tippman production peice. It's got the same broom handel front grip, the bolt is in the same place. H&K should sue Tippman for copying thier design.

No man, this looks lke the real deal, a website posted these pics from some touney the site owner was at and tested it. He got a nasty letter from tippmann, and all the tippmann fourms with these pics were taken down. apperently this think will be releasd in May. and it isnt just somones concoction, it dose have that prototype starfish laoder that tippmann was showing off on warpig.

At any rate, Tippmann seemed quite pissed that these pictures were leaked.

with their 'loader' on the right side of the marker, they really screwed people who are right handed. Thats a HUGE target.

                    Hmmm....

Now that I've seen the pix, I can give a more informed opinion.

I certainly agree that Tippmann is not doing the sport of paintball any favours with this new MP5-replica styling; we need to get as far away from the bad military associations that paintball has as possible.

However, if we examine their BUSINESS plan a little more thoroughly, I can definitely understand their reason for making this marker.

Fact 1. Tippmanns customers are mainly newbies/entry level players.
Fact 2. Newbies/Entry level players are often misinformed about what paintball is. They often think it's still 'War-in-the-woods'...
Fact 3. What is the FIRST thing newbie/entry level players ask for when they buy a marker? 'What's the best 'sniper gun''?
Tippmann already captured that market with the Flatline barrel.

So we know that Tippmann is catering for a largely uninformed, war-obsessed audience. We know they already make grenades, mortars, mines, 'sniper rifles'... What's next on the list of 'Most wanteds'?
                    Lets see... MP5s!

All those newbies who play recball and scenarios LIKE pretending they're in a war. They LIKE their camo. They like their grenades and ghillie suits.

Its only natural for Tippmann to cater to their target audience with an MP5-replica!...

I bet they sell buckets of them and make lots of money.

                    They're a business. That's what they're supposed to do.

in all likely hood this a marker meant primarily for the military/ law enforcement training market similar to the sydarm and perfect circle paintballs. It is a great benifit to have a training simulator that is as close as possible to the real weapon (in this case the mp-5). I doubt you see it get realesed to the open market.

lol you guys are to much...
has anyone of you looked at an air soft gun?? how bout a bb gun?? they are made to look like real firearms are they not?? tippman makes good quality products i have 3 mags and a verty cocker but for the life of me i cant make my brother give up his m98 (he once got eliminations on 2 players of a propaintball ::read lockout:: 3 man team with it) but look at paintball guns of the past...kp2 looks like your average pump action shot gun there was a gun that was modeled exactly after an uzi. its no big deal, and with senario games modeled after real wars i dont really think its a big deal. paintball will always have the same issue as boxing, hocky, and many other sports. we will never please everyone, there will be many closed minded people out there and i dont plan on buying or not buying a marker based on what they have to say about my sport.
Tom was the last of a now extinct breed, a breed of players who build a community, a breed of owners who gave to the sport never taking more than what they deserved. I hope to see you at the feild again some day....

                            Form follows function

Paintball guns are bound to resemble traditional firearms in some cases. They both are designed to propell objects at a target from a handheld platform. Traditional firarms have been around a while and have figured out what balances well and feels right in your hands.

Paintball was first marketed as "the ultimate survival game" and will likely always have a portion of this connotation. Lets face it, traumahead video style play doesn't appeal to everyone, in fact many newbies think the contrary. Popular scenario games are often based on historic conflicts, etc.

As a sport we need to continue to promote responsible play and safety and quit worrying about "political correctness." Paintball being a "war game" is a pimple on the rear end of our country's problems; anyone who worries about it has too much free time and will eventually get bored with their crusade and move on to some other earth shattering crisis!
